sepultura

i have been spending a lot of time in the cemetary lately and have realized that it appeals to virtually every one of my interests one way or another. for example, i saw cowbirds, a dark morph raccoon with whom i had a staring contest, chipmunks, all kinds of birds and a very large, prowling black cat.

also i am kind of obsessed with the old city and love looking at the ancient headstones. my favourites are the ones with rounded, oval black and white photos of husband and wife, especially the eastern european and chinese ones.

i love that some of the markers are massive, brilliantly crafted sculptures and i love that by reading names as i pass, i am able to acknowledge and respect a lifetime. the sentiment resonates with me very much, so much that my mom thinks i now want to be buried in a cemetary, something i have never wanted! so wasteful.

anyway, i like the idea of naturally decomposing in the earth if i were to be buried in any way.

also, headstones are a phenomenal source of inspiration! from design to quotes to the crazy variety of surnames. not to mention the instant life histories ones mind conjurs upon looking at the still faces surrounded by etched characters in dozens of languages.
